Beaches

There are numerous beautiful beaches in the immediate area of Stoupa. Stoupa itself has 3 sandy beaches and you will find more sandy beaches in Agios Nikolaos. If you go towards Kardamyli you will find beaches with pebbles. Some beaches have a taverna, others are more isolated.

Places to go

Stoupa and its surrounding villages of Kardamyli and Agios Nikolaos have plenty to offer for a relaxed holiday. If you would like to explore some more than there are so many possibilities that you will surely need more than one holiday! You can visit Messene, Kalamata, Olympia and Monemvasia from here. You can take a day trip to the Inner Mani. Or spend another day visiting Gytheio, Sparta and Mystras. Where ever you go, you will be sure to find some wonderful villages and scenery.

Hiking

A lot of people come to the Mani (Stoupa is in the Mani) for its beautiful Taygetos mountain range, forests and gorges. The area around Stoupa offers great opportunities for hiking. You will find a lot of walks signposted in the landscape, often using the ancient stone paths (kalderimi) that used to link the mountain villages. During your walks you will be rewarded with vistas of the sea and mountains. Herbs grow everywhere and give off their scent! Especially in spring nature is everywhere and abundant with flowers.

Proastio Riding Centre

Another way to enjoy your surroundings is to go horse riding. There is an excellent horse riding center in Proastio, within 6 km's from Villa To Kyma. You can have classical riding lessons in the arena or go on a trail in the mountains. Deborah Watts runs the horse riding center and has been riding and teaching for over 30 years. She ran her own stable in Ireland for ten years before moving to Greece. She is a very sensitive and intuitive teacher, who reads both horse and rider with equal accuracy.

Cycling

Cycling is another sport that is done a lot in the Mani. It is possible to bring your own bicycle by air but bicycles are also for rent in Stoupa, Agios Nikolaos and Kardamyli. Stoupa and Agios Nikolaos tend to have mostly recreational bikes with gears.

Night life

Most villages in the area have restaurants and tavernas. People are usually very relaxed and friendly there. The area has a few discos, more can be found in Kalamata. Stoupa (500 m.) and Kardamyli (6 km) are very lively at night with lots of people doing their 'volta' (stroll).

Shopping

There are small shops in most villages where you can find things like traditional food. Stoupa and Kardamyli have a few supermarkets and some giftshops. Kalamata has lots of shops in the old center but be aware that they usually close around 14.00.

Archeology

The Peleponnese has a lot of ancient sites that are within a day's distance from Stoupa. How about Olympia, Mystras, Sparta, Monemvasia and Ithomi as a few examples? If you enjoy visiting some of the ancient sites in the area then there are several possibilities.
